French Manicures - The French Certainly Got This Right
You've probably seen a beautiful woman, coiffed and dressed to the nines, with incredibly manicured fingernails sporting elegant white tips. This woman knows what's in style and has gotten a French Manicure. French Manicure’s have grown in popularity over the years and are now the most common form of manicure given at nail spas around the world. Forget those long ruby red nails, natural color and blindingly white tips are all the rage now. Despite the higher cost of a French Tip manicure, it’s still the most popular. A French Manicure begins with getting your fingertips prepared. To do this, you soak your fingers in a warm solution of water. Some manicurists add an emollient to the water to soften up your cuticles as well. Once you’re done soaking, your fingers will be dried off and your cuticles will be prepared by pushing them back with an orange stick. An orange stick is a little stick which is sometimes orange or simply a beige color. If you’ve never had your cuticles pushed back, prepare yourself for a bit of discomfort. It’s not painful, just an unusual feeling the first time it’s done. You may find that you’ve got more cuticle than necessary and the excess will need to be removed with some cuticle remover. This isn’t a painful procedure either and it will make your nail appear larger and better defined. The next step is to rub hand cream into your fingers and let that sit for two to three minutes so it soaks in. After you’ve wiped off the hand cream it’s time to brush on a clear base coat and let that dry. Next is an application of a color close to the color of the nail, either a flesh tone or a clear color works quite well. Let the first coat dry for at least two minutes and then apply a second coat. Now it’s time for the fun part of the French Manicure; the white tips! Paint the tips of the nails with an opaque white or bright white color. In a traditional French Manicure, the white polish is brushed in a straight line across the tip of the nail, but if you want your nails to look longer and sexier, then brush the white polish in a natural curve across your nails. Let the white polish dry and finish up with another clear coat of polish that will protect the layers beneath. If you’ve made some errors while applying polish, it’s very easy to fix. Simply take an orange stick and wrap a piece of a cotton ball around the tip. Moisten that with some nail polish remover and clean up the mistakes around the nail on the finger. Don’t go too far with the cotton swabbed orange stick or you may end up having to redo the entire nail Now all you have to do is wait. Your nails won’t be completely dry for another twenty minutes and if you truly want to be safe, don’t try doing anything that might mar the surface of your nails before waiting an hour. Once your nails have passed that hour to dry, it's your turn to wave them around in public and be the one that everyone admires for their put-together look!
