French Tips over Regular Tips

Leave it to the French to improve on something of beauty.  Most people believe that a French Manicure actually came from France, but that’s not true.  The French Manicure was developed in 1975 by nail care company Orly International in Los Angeles. It was then adopted by the runway models sashaying in the fashion shows in France and that’s where it gained its popularity.

The French Manicure’s popularity rises and falls, just like hemlines.  One year it’s in and the next year the fashion police will be called on you should you venture out in public sporting those blindingly white tips. Lately it seems the French Manicure is more popular than ever.

Basically the only difference between a French Manicure and a regular manicure is the application of the white nail polish on the tips of the nails.  A regular manicure requires the application of a clear base coat, as does the French Manicure and then two to three coats of colored polish.  A French Manicure has a clear base coat, and then another clear base coat and an application of a light pink or flesh tone to match the color of the nail, then the white tips.

Another difference between a regular manicure and a French Manicure is the price.  You will pay more for a French Manicure every time.
As for whether one is better than the other, that would depend on personal preferences and of course whether or not the fashion industry says the French Manicure is in season.
