Manicures and Manicurists
Leeza

There’s nothing more relaxing than having someone play with your hands, massaging oil and lotions into them and then putting glossy colors on your nails.  Manicures give the sensation of incredible relaxation and besides the beautification you receive, it also gives you an amazing emotional boost.
Nail salons seem to be popping up all over the place, from big cities to small towns, and everywhere in between.  Manicurists are also popping up everywhere as well.

How do you become a manicurist?  Licenses for manicurists may vary from place to place, but your first step is to make sure you don’t mind touching people’s hands and feet. I’ve known some manicurists that knew they wanted to be a nail artist because they loved giving their roommates manicures and pedicures and painting their nails. It’s not for everyone. You’ve got to be a people person in order to be happy giving manicures, because you’ll be spending a great deal of time talking to your clients and getting to know them.
Cosmetology schools across the country offer classes for manicurists.  They teach theory and practical skills to help you succeed in your field. You’ll learn your trade in different locations, from labs to classrooms and professional salons for more practical experience.  These cosmetology programs are intensive and you may have the opportunity to graduate within months.
To become a manicurist you will have to complete your coursework study and then pass both a written and a practical exam. Once you’ve been issued your license, you’re ready to start giving manicures to everyone you meet!

A manicurist has many other duties in a salon besides cleaning, cutting and painting nails.  Most manicurists perform pedicures as well as wax removal of excess facial hair or bikini waxes. A manicurist is also trained in how to apply artificial nails, how to remove them, how to administer nail wraps.
Just because you’ve got your manicurist license doesn’t mean you’re going to stop learning.  Keeping up with the new advancements in artificial nails, new colors and nail treatments are all a part of being a successful manicurist.

How do you know your manicurist is good? Sometimes your friends will recommend a nail salon to you, or a particular manicurist.  If they do, it’s still a good idea to make certain that your manicurist is licensed and has the proper training in how to keep their stations clean and disinfected.  Nail infections can be contracted by having a bad manicure in a nail salon where standards of cleanliness aren’t as high as they ought to be.

A good manicurist will continue to practice excellent hygiene and disinfectant skills in order to make certain that her customers experience at her hands is a healthy and a beautiful one.

Getting a manicure by a well trained manicurist can be a wonderful, entertaining and relaxing experience.
