The French Manicure for Toes

Most of my fashion idea and sense comes from teenage daughter. I think sometimes that as mothers we lose sight of the fact that we are still women with a need to be pampered and gussied up.  My teenage daughter has kept me abreast of the latest in fashion and beauty in the past couple of years.  One of the things she’s taught me about is that French Manicures aren’t just for fingernails anymore.  

One day she informed me that my feet looked awful, and I should have a pedicure.  I knew it was true so I made the appointment.  Before I went to have my pedicure, my daughter mentioned that having a French Manicure on my toes would be way cool.  Her words not mine.  Sometimes being a mom keeps you from learning about fashion trends in clothing and makeup and in pedicures. This was one of those times.  

I asked the manicurist if she could do a French manicure on my toenails and she didn’t run screaming out of the salon, so I took that to be a good sign.  After she was done with the scrubbing and buffing and painting of my nails, I was happy with how they looked.

The next morning I wore my flip flops down to the school bus stop to wait for the bus with the other mothers and their children.  I noticed more than one mother eyeing my feet, trying to be discrete about their curiosity.  Finally one of them told me she’d never heard of a French Manicure on toe nails.  I knew right then that she didn’t have a teenage fashion guru to guide her.
