What Would It Take to Have a Complete Set of Manicure Tools
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

There are so many manicure tools today. Used to be your manicure tools would be nothing more than a set of clippers and maybe small sciccors. No longer are the implements only cuticle pushers, fingernail and toenail clippers, scissors and nail files. You can now find manual and electric versions of almost everything today. To add to that there are even more brushes nowadays for all the new chemicals that are being used.

Included in tools would be newly created electric appliances. These include the nail spa, which is a tiny jacuzzi for hands or feet. One of the latest appliances is one that holds and heats paraffin wax.

These tools, in addition to cuticle pushers, nail files, scissors and brushes, also include polishers, buffers, sanders, and acrylic nail nippers. Again, these can be used either manually or with electric appliances. All of these implements, in either case, may be designed for professional use, or may be for personal use in the home.

Manicure tools also include razors and various implements to remove calluses and corns. While you can also buy these implements for home use, this seems dangerous and I believe such treatments should be done not only professionally, but perhaps by a doctor or podiatrist.

A podiatrist or doctor may be advisable because whenever a process includes manicure tools that pose a danger of breaking the skin or even causing abrasion, there should be an element of ensured sanitation and sterilization.

Included in the danger of infection could be risk of serious disease transmitted if bleeding was caused by a laceration using one of these manicure tools. I am sure that professional manicurists are trained in some elements of safety precaution, but I do not think they have the expertise of a doctor or nurse.

It may be important as well, that tools that could cut or scrape the skin be made from stainless steel or other surgical grade metals. This is because cheaper metals could rust or deteriorate over time could cause tetanus just as a rusty nail would. This is not an area where I would be 'penny wise and pound foolish'
